*Elizabeth Bolles, DHL, research focused on bridging the hitherto isolated, yet complementary, fields of ecopsychology and somatic psychology. Before her untimely death to cancer, Elizabeth was developing a theoretical model that could identify the relationships between the phenomena of “environmental connectivity” and embodiment. Her study was to include an analysis of how these relationships relate to and influence the change process, particularly the efforts of change advocates who work toward ecological and social justice. Elizabeth postulated that an enhanced environmental connectivity and embodiment awareness could provide necessary support for activists to help avoid symptoms of burnout and overwhelm, classic concerns for those who work on behalf of the greater good.
**Robert E.L. Masters, PhD, was, for more than three decades, Director of Research of The Foundation for Mind Research, which he Co-founded with his wife, Dr. Jean Houston, He authored or co-authored 25 books and more than 100 papers and articles describing his researches into the varieties of human behavior and potentials. His works have been translated into many different languages and he has taught and done research in Europe, Africa and Asia as well as the Americas. He is recognized as a leading pioneer in consciousness research and the human potentials field. Dr. Masters also conducted on-site investigations of trance and psychoactive plant-induced altered states of consciousness in many different cultures and countries.
He has pioneered applications of altered states in education and psychotherapy, as well as in neural, sensory, and kinesthetic re-education aimed at overcoming many different problems but especially at making possible a larger and more productive access to human potentials. Robert Masters founded the Association for the Masters Psychophysical Method, a group of more than one hundred teachers trained and certified by him for the work he has created in the field of psychophysical reeducation.
Partnering in New Discoveries and Innovation
Santa Barbara Graduate Institute (SBGI) is dedicated to preparing students
to grapple with society's most challenging issues. Some of these issues
include 1) understanding the origins of mental illness (i.e., early human development
and maternal infant bonding), and 2) promoting wellness and a sense of community
through body-mind-spirit somatic psychology. SBGI students produce
original work in the form of a Master's (community-based) Project and Doctoral
level research. In order to facilitate these efforts, as well as continuing
the innovative training of faculty, SBGI offers this opportunity for Donors to
be a part of this endeavor.
RESEARCH
Psychological research helps explain the way
human beings think and behave. Some ongoing research projects
at SBGI include the exploration of early imprints and the origins
of violence, the effects of trauma on the developing child, and
the use of body-centered psychology within the group context. (Past
projects have consisted of developing grants and community service
projects, hosting conferences, and producing a film on Child Trauma.)
SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS
Psychology cannot thrive without nourishing
our most intelligent and inquiring minds to pursue the limits of
the discipline. The SBGI Center for Clinical
Studies and Research, a California non-profit agency, provides scholarships
and seeks funding for students needing assistance for completing their clinical
or counseling psychology program. Students who apply need to have strong
academic credentials and show evidence of need to receive scholarships.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT To stay
on the cutting edge of psychology and to stay up with the remarkable
effects technology has had on this discipline, faculty also need to be apprised
of new research and be kept well informed as to best teaching practices.
SBGI would welcome your support. All donations

Subject: Donor Letter
Dear Dr. Glenn:
I would like to make a gift to Santa Barbara
Graduate Institute (SBGI) for the purpose of providing funds to
be used in support of the school's research and training programs.
I
understand that all gifts are deposited to the SBGI Center for
Clinical Studies and Research, a California non-profit (501C3)
associated with the Institute. This gift will further the
science and scholarship around: 1) early human development (prenatal
and birth experiences and maternal infant bonding), and 2) through
body-mind-spirit somatic psychology, an important gateway to
mental and emotional healing.
I understand that my donation would be used for:
1. student
scholarships and fellowships,
2. faculty
development,
3. graduate
research. I respectfully
request that SBGI accept this gift.
