Santa Barbara Graduate Institute Featured Faculty Research

An Evidence-Based Approach for the Treatment of
Prenatal and Perinatal Trauma in Adult

Various models of psychotherapy have emerged during the last 30 years to help adults address the persistent effects of trauma from events that took place during the prenatal and perinatal periods of their lives. No model has been subjected to systematic evaluation to date, however. The goal of this pioneering research is to collect quantitative data to determine the effectiveness of an integrated prenatal and perinatal psychology and a cognitive-behavioral treatment modality for the alleviation of symptoms rooted in early life.

Alyea Sandovar, MA, PhD(c), Prenatal and Perinatal Department Coordinator, is the Research Assistant (RA) - asandovar@sbgi.edu
Aubrey Slaughter, BA, Prenatal and Perinatal Doctoral Student, is the student research assistant.

Interested Participants are currently being accepted and asked to review and complete the forms, including a personal history questionnaire, prior to being approved for the study. Please contact Dr. Lyman or Ms. Sandovar if you are interested in learning more about the study or to discuss the parameters around participation, for example, the length of time, risks and benefits, and the goals of the study.

This study has been approved by Santa Barbara Graduate Institute's Institutional Review Board (IRB) and is committed to a safe and collaborative approach to research with participants.
