President's Welcome

Welcome to Santa Barbara Graduate Institute and an educational opportunity never before available.

Two new distinct yet related disciplines are emerging in the field of psychology: prenatal and perinatal psychology and somatic psychology. These arise from research and clinical experience spanning many disciplines that point to the fact that our earliest experiences are the most formative and that we must consider the whole body-mind-spirit in our concepts of health and healing. In response to the growing need for professionals trained in these new specialties, Santa Barbara Graduate Institute offers the first graduate degrees in prenatal and perinatal psychology and the first doctoral degrees in somatic psychology.

SBGI programs have synergistic education as their foundation. This philosophy and model integrates personal and professional experience with academic knowledge and research. It incorporates multiple ways of knowing, learning, and healing and the unique contribution of every participant interacting together to create a nurturing educational community.

We invite leading educators, researchers and clinicians from all over the country to serve as faculty, mentors and research advisors to students in their areas of concentration. Adult learners come monthly to be an honored part of the teaching-learning community where learning is experiential, appropriately challenging, and personally relevant.

The professional commitments and psychological needs of the mature student are carefully considered within the Institute’s monthly, three or four-day class structure. Here an educational environment is created that supports personal exploration and growth and the development of specific academic knowledge and therapeutic skills.

If you are called to make a difference, if you would like to become a pioneer in the emerging fields of somatic psychology or prenatal and perinatal psychology, we invite you to join our next class and become part of our educational community. Please let us know how we may serve you.

With warm regards,

Marti Glenn, Ph.D.
President
