Full-time Core Faculty Member in the Somatic Psychology Department
The Somatic Psychology Department, SBGI-TCS currently has an opening for a full-time core faculty member.
The Somatic Psychology Department at SBGI-TCS is one of four graduate programs in somatic psychology, and the only program to offer both the MA and PhD degree. Students who graduate from the Master’s program in clinical psychology with a specialization in somatic psychology fulfill the academic requirements for Marriage and Family Therapist licensure in the State of California. Students in the PhD program engage in leading edge research, clinical practice and preparation for teaching in a rapidly evolving academic and professional field.
Our growing student community currently serves close to 150 students in two innovative delivery formats, including a hybrid online program. The department holds a commitment to academic rigor and solid theoretical grounding in combination with an experiential approach to developing clinical skills.
Duties: Full time faculty are expected to teach core clinical psychology courses as well as somatic psychology specialty courses in both delivery formats. Consequently, familiarity with several somatic psychotherapy modalities and experience teaching online will be considered assets. Faculty will also be expected to undertake student advising, sit on student doctoral committees, and participate in the administrative and faculty governance activities of the department.
Qualifications: Successful applicants will hold a doctorate degree in clinical psychology or related field, and should be license eligible. They will possess extensive clinical experience in the field of somatic psychology, evidence of teaching at the graduate level, and demonstrated administrative skills, experience in higher education and a commitment to diversity.

Santa Barbara Graduate Institute -TCS is the first and only academic institution to offer degrees in prenatal and perinatal psychology. SBGI’s Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology Department aims to prepare students to become effective psychotherapists, educators, researchers, and health care providers. Students follow either the clinical psychology or psychoeducational track. All degree offerings focus on healthy functioning and prevention; courses in the clinical psychology curriculum also concentrate on pathology and intervention.

Background: The prenatal and perinatal period of human development encompasses conception, pregnancy, birth, and infancy. Prenatal and perinatal psychology is an emerging field that studies the mental, emotional, physical, social, environmental, and spiritual aspects of this period for the developing child, mother, and young family. We have an interest in expanding the work of pre- and periantal psychology to include infant/family mental health and wellness.
