About

Founded in 2000, Santa Barbara Graduate Institute (SBGI) offers the world’s first graduate degrees in prenatal and perinatal psychology and the first doctoral degrees in somatic psychology.

These distinct yet related disciplines center on the premise that our minds and our bodies are inextricably linked and that we must therefore consider the whole person (body, mind, and spirit) if we are to effect deep and lasting change in people’s lives. This holistic perspective often requires practitioners to integrate the best of traditional treatment methodologies and established clinical practice with the best of alternative approaches to health and healing—a pioneering, integrative approach for which SBGI has become known.

Our picturesque campus in the historic Riviera District of Santa Barbara offers the ideal venue for on-campus residencies that are so integral to our programs. Nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, our grounds include inviting outdoor spaces—dotted with gardens, fountains and picnic tables—and handsome Spanish-contemporary architecture that comfortably houses our interactive, engaged style of learning. At SBGI, you will be “at home,” surrounded by a network of professionals, learners, and mentors who speak your language and share your desire to make life-altering differences in the lives of others.
